Stockholm in 2 Days: Things to Do & See

Although my ‘home’ for the first night in Stockholm was a great find – very close to the central station and complete with a sauna room (and an amazing breakfast), i was looking forward to a unique experience in the city: staying onboard a boat hostel!

With the ‘Slussen‘ neighbourhood as a good, central base, Klintan (Gustaf at Klint) seemed like a very exciting boat hostel’ 🙂

My initial apprehension was that it may be uncomfortable to sleep onboard a ‘rocking’ home – but i was pleasantly surprised that the crashing of the waves and the ‘rocking’ actually helped me sleep like a baby, quite literally! The upper deck also doubled up as a restobar and breakfast in the mornings – another plus that made it an interesting experience.

Just a few stops away from Gamla Stan – the old town of Stockholm, the central location also allowed me to get around the must visit parts of the city with much ease.

See: the Vasa Museum

A highlight of my Stockholm visit was the Vasa Museum – an actual 17th Century Ship resurrected in it’s full glory. The Vasa ship capsized and sank in Stockholm in 1628. After 333 years on the sea bed the mighty warship was salvaged and the voyage could continue. Today Vasa is the world’s only preserved 17th century ship and the most visited museum in Scandinavia.

Walking around this magnificent beauty feels like entering a time portal, and i was absolutely stunned by it. Words may not do justice to something that needs to be seen to be truly felt!

My local friend Raquel took me to this awesome place called K25, which is essentially like a food court that houses 11 great restaurants & bars. This way, we got to pick and choose whatever we felt like trying from a variety of options all around.

Do: Stockholm Pass & Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus + Walk around Gamla Stan

Whenever i have limited time in a city, i always prefer getting the city pass, and Stockholm has both the Stockholm Pass as well as hop-on-hop-off buses.

But besides the tourist attractions, a walking tour of the city is always the best way to discover a new place for me. Gamla Stan, the historical city center of Stockholm with its cobbled streets and purty lanes is built for the flaneur. If you do nothing else in Stockholm, walk around here and grab a semla / cinnamon bun in one of the charming cafes in this neighborhood.
