Rivers have always been the lifeline of civilizations, from drinking water to trade routes.
As someone who’s been exploring Goa since the past 14 years and counting, my fascination and fondness towards Goa’s rivers has only grown more as i watch the coastal development grow faster every year with equal parts wonder and equal parts horror.
Thankfully, the riverside of the sunshine state still remains fairly untouched by mass tourism.
Tune in to my first ever podcast for Musafir Stories where i talk about this love for the rivers and try and catch up with the secrets i spill out!
Quick Notes and Tips
- Stay at the heritage Fort Tiracol hotel for one of the most quaint experiences in Goa, with little to no ‘to-dos’.
- Chapora is my favorite river in Goa! Rent a boat from the Chapora jetty for an exquisite and leisurely experience.
- Mandovi separates the capital city of Panjim from Porvorim in North Goa. Explore her islands on a bicycle.
(Chorao, Divar, St.Estevam, Vaixim). - Palolem & Agonda are no longer secret beaches, but their backwaters are still less explored.
Spend an early morning here with local fisher folk! - Consider staying in the lazy villages of Olaulim / Aldona / Carona for a taste of ‘real’ Goa. The Mapusa river has its own gems waiting to be discovered! Read extensive posts by my friends and fellow bloggers Sharanya / Shivya / Rachelย / Reshmaย for more on this region (i’ve just touched it and want to explore more!).
